How to improve the sound quality of my Philips TV?

Published on 2016-12-29

In order to improve the sound quality, make sure that you observe the following guidelines:

  • Check the quality of the incoming signal on the TV with a different Source like DVD or VCR
  • Splitting the signal will make it considerably weaker. If you use an antenna cable splitter: connect the antenna directly to the TV without the splitter.
  • Check your cables and cable-connections
  • Make all your cables as short as possible
  • Use high quality antenna cable
  • Connect the plugs well into their sockets

In order to enjoy the highest possible sound quality, we advise you to place the TV close to a wall or cabinet. The speaker is located at the back and projects the sound behind the TV, which is why the quality of the sound improves if it is reflected off a wall or a cabinet.

Check whether the sound quality has improved. If not:

You can use the [Smart Mode] button on the remote control to set your TV to a predefined sound mode settings that will give you the best sound quality.

Alternatively, follow these steps to select the settings that suit your preferences:

  1. Press the [Menu] button on the remote control to access the main menu
  2. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Sound] and press the cursor [Right] to access the sound menu
  3. Press the cursor [Up][Down] to access the [Sound] settings
  4. Press the cursor [Right] to select and the cursor [Up][Down] to adjust them according to your preferences
  5. Press the [Menu] button to exit the menu
  6. If you see the mute symbol [Mute] on the screen, deactivate the mute feature by pressing the [Mute] button on the remote control

If the TV is connected to the audio system:

  1. Check the connection with the audio system
  2. Switch the audio system to the correct source
  3. Turn the volume of the audio system up

If you do not have sound or bad sound on one or a few channels, the problem is with the reception or the broadcasting quality of these channels.

Fine-tune the channel(s). Fine-tuning can be useful when the frequency has shifted a bit or when interference of another frequency occurs.

  1. Press the [Menu] button on the remote control to access the main menu
  2. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Install] and press the cursor [Right] to access the installation menu
  3. If the Parental lock is activated, the screen will prompt you to enter your access code. If you have forgotten your access code, refer to the FAQ ('I have forgotten my 4-digit access code. How can I reset it?').
  4. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Manual [Store]] and press the cursor [Right]
  5. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Fine Tune] and press the cursor [Right]
  6. Adjust the frequency with the cursor [Up][Down] in case of poor reception of the channel found
  7. Press the cursor [Left] once adjustment is completed
  8. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Store] and press the cursor [Right] to [YES]
  9. Press the [OK] button to [Store] the frequency
  10. Press the [Menu] button to exit the menu

Reinstall all the channel(s):
