Advancing Indonesia’s digital health transformation in Semarang, Central Java

Executive dialogue hosted by Philips showcases interoperable smart hospital patient monitoring solutions and recognizes SMC RS Telogorejo Hospital’s milestone in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) adoption

AI powered imaging, and cutting-edge monitoring technologies can simplify workflows, bring disparate patient data together and enable informed clinical decisions to empower healthcare staff to deliver care more efficiently. To scale digital health adoption in Indonesia and accelerate health system interoperability, Philips recently gathered over 50 senior leaders from public and private hospitals across Central Java on a high-level dialogue to explore collaboration strategies.

The discussion was led by Setiaji, S.T., M.Si, Chief of Digital Transformation Office and Expert Staff for Health Technology, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia; dr. Daniel Budi Wibowo, M.Kes, FISQua, Indonesian Private Hospital Association (ARSSI) Central Health Insurance Compartment & ARSSI Semarang Branch Advisor; dr. Alice Sutedjo Lisa, President Director of SMC RS Telogorejo and Astri Ramayanti Dharmawan, President Director of Philips Indonesia.

“Digital health transformation is not just about deploying new technologies—it’s about ensuring equitable access, integrating systems, and empowering health professionals to deliver better care,” said Setiaji, S.T., M.Si, Chief of Digital Transformation Office and Expert Staff for Health Technology, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. “The Ministry of Health fully supports cross-sector collaboration to build a resilient, interconnected patient-centered digital health ecosystem across Indonesia.”

Understanding how advanced technologies can create a positive impact is the first step. In critical care, for example, hospital patient monitoring solutions with AI-powered technologies can support early detection and clinical decision-making—through tools like early warning systems and real-time trend visualization. These innovations empower clinicians, hospital leaders, and IT teams to deliver more responsive, integrated, and patient-centered care. The leaders had the opportunity to explore Philips’ suite of digitally integrated hospital patient monitoring solutions designed at the event.

The event culminated in a site visit to SMC RS Telogorejo, a pioneer in hospital digitalization, which recently achieved Stage 6 validation in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). Participants witnessed firsthand the hospital’s real-world implementation of integrated health IT platforms — including Laboratory Information System (LIS), MYSMC hospital integrated application, ICCA, data collection system for breast milk pumping, Smart Pump for injection, and Smart ECG —demonstrating how interoperability is enabling more efficient, patient-centered care delivery.

“Creating a pleasant experience for patients from arrival to departure, as well as enhancing quality of service and safety, forms the foundation of our journey towards an innovative smart hospital,” said dr. Alice Sutedjo Lisa, President Director of SMC RS Telogorejo. “Working with partners allows us to go beyond infrastructure, to co-create intelligent solutions that truly enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes, and operational efficiency.”

SMC RS Telogorejo’s transformation reflects the future of smart hospitals in Indonesia. Its collaboration with multiple healthcare ecosystem partners exemplifies how co-developed digital health solutions can be scaled to meet national healthcare goals.

"As the healthcare landscape evolves, strategic partnerships are essential to address challenges such as data fragmentation, workforce shortages, and rising patient expectations,” said Astri Ramayanti Dharmawan, President Director of Philips Indonesia. "Through events like this, Philips aims to serve not only as a health technology partner, but also as a catalyst for long-term digital transformation in Indonesia’s healthcare system."
