How to descale my Saeco Syntia espresso machine

Descaling your Saeco Syntia espresso machine helps keeping it in optimal condition. Discover how to easily do this yourself.

Before you start the descaling cycle

  • The complete descaling takes about 30 minutes and consists of a descaling cycle and rinsing cycles
  • Once started you need to complete the descale procedure till the very end
  • Use Saeco/Philips descaling solution CA6700 or CA6701, never use vinegar as a decalcifier

Before you start:

  • Empty the drip tray
  • Have a container available to collect the water during the descaling process
  • Remove the INTENZA+ water filter from the water tank (if placed)
  • Remove the Pannarello / Cappuccinatore / Automatic milk frother (if placed)

Descale instructions - descale cycle steps 1-4

1) Set the selector switch to the CENTRAL I position and switch the machine on
2) Empty the water tank and pour the entire bottle of Saeco descaling solution in it. Fill the water tank up with fresh water to the MAX level and put it back into the machine
3) Place a container under the steam/hot water wand and the dispensing spout
4) Press and hold the AROMA/PRE-GROUND coffee button for about 5 seconds. Release it when the display show the start screen for descaling

5) Press the ESPRESSO button to confirm the activation of the descaling cycle Attention: once started you need to complete the descale procedure till the very end
6) The machine starts dispensing the descaling solution through the dispensing spout. This takes about 10 minutes. The display shows the progress
7) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the HOT WATER position. The machine starts dispensing the descaling solution through the steam wand. This takes about 10 minutes
8) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the CENTRAL I position

Descale instructions - rinsing cycle steps 9-12

9) The NO WATER symbol appears in the display. Rinse the water tank, fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water and place it back into the machine. The NO WATER light turns off
10) Place the container under the steam/hot water wand and the dispensing spout
11) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the HOT WATER position. The machine starts dispensing a small quantity of water through the steam wand
12) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the CENTRAL I position. The machine starts dispensing water through the dispensing spout

13) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the HOT WATER position. The machine starts dispensing a small quantity of water through the steam wand
14) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the CENTRAL I position

15) The NO WATER symbol appears in the display. Rinse the water tank, fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water and place it back into the machine. The NO WATER light turns off
16) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the HOT WATER position. The machine starts dispensing water through the steam wand. The display shows the progress

17) When the selector switch symbol appears on the display, turn the selector switch to the CENTRAL I position
18) The NO WATER symbol appears in the display. Rinse the water tank, fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water and place it back into the machine. The NO WATER light turns off and END will appear in the display
19) Press the AROMA/PRE-GROUND coffee button to exit the descaling cycle Important: If the water tank is not filled up to the MAX level before the rinsing cycles, the END symbol will not appear. You need to perform another rinsing cycle. Repeat steps 15 to 18 until the END symbol appears.
20) The machine automatically starts a warm-up and rinse cycle and is now ready again for use
